  Teaching objects

  1.Learn this passage and know roots of the author.

  2.Study language point of this passage.

  Teaching procedures

  I. Revision

  Get Ss to tell each other the story of Kunta in pairs. One S starts the first sentence of the story, then the partner continues to speak out the second sentence of the story , and so on.

  II. Presentation

  1) The teacher show the pictures to Ss, and let Ss talk about the pictures and describe what they can see.

  2) Teach the new word of lesson 54

  III. Reading

  1) Get the Ss to read aloud the two questions before the Ss read the passage.

  2) Allow the Ss enough time to read the text and discuss their answers in pairs,

  3) The teacher collect the answers in the whole class.

  4) The answers to two questions: 1 Gambia. 2 Information about his ancestors.)

  IV. Language point

  Deal with any language problems.

  The government is trying to provide the unemployed with jobs.

  e.g. She run quickly in order to catch up with the bus.

  In order that he pass the English , he study hard until the mid-night.

  用于引导时间状语从句,其连词的作用, 意思为“一…就…”类似的时间名词还有:

  the minute, the second, the first time, every time, each time, next time, any time等。例如:

  Give me a call the moment you get his news.

  Every time I catch a cold, I have pain in my back.

  V. Listen and repeat

  1) Play the tape of the passage for the Ss to listen and follow.

  2) Play the tape of part of the passage once more, let the Ss listen and repeat, pay attention to stress and intonation.

  3) If possible, the teacher let some students read out the passage or paragraph in the class.

  VI. Story telling

  1) Let the Ss work in pairs to look at the pictures and construct the story in their words.

  2) The teacher allow the Ss enough time to discuss the story with their partner. And then let some students describe the pictures in the whole class.

  The teacher also give some cue words to the whole class(especially in the weak class.): he born in …/a free and strong man/ fond of music; one day..; a few days later…/ at a market…

  VII. Interview

  1) Let the Ss work in pairs to interview each other.

  2) Allow the Ss enough time to prepare some questions from the passage, then check these with the whole class.

  VIII. Homework

  1.Finish off the exercises of the Workbook.

  2.Retell this passage in your own ways.
