Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 Revision
Check the homework
Have a dictation
Ask the students to talk about any techniques of their own which they find useful.
Step 2 Presentation and reading for general understanding
Write the complex Chinese character on the blackboard and let the students talk about. Then answer the two questions:
Is the text about listening to people or learning a foreign language?
Does the writer give advice or information or both?
Step 3 Reading
1. Read the whole passage carefully and chooose the right answers, working in pairs or small groups.

Group work about the following questions:
Which pieces of advice do you agree with?
Which pieces of advice do you disagree with?
Who are good listeners to you, and what do they do well?
In what ways do people not listen to you well?
How has this group discussion been? Have you listened well to each other?

Read the text aloud after class.
Finish the exercises in the white-cover book.
