Lesson 29

  . Teaching objectives:

  1. Students are supposed to master and use the everyday English for communication (apology)

  I’m sorry.

  I apologize I shouted at you.

  Please excuse me for quarrelling with you.

  I don’t mean to be rude.

  2. Students are required to master the following words and useful expressions: change one’s mind; anyhow; argument; misunderstanding; ashamed

  . Teaching aids: tape recorder; slide show

  . Key points:

  1. Dialogue presentation

  2. Vocabulary and grammar usage in real-situation dialogues

  3. Daily expressions in communication

  4. Learn the expressions used in a restaurant

  . Teaching procedures:

  Step 1. Revision

  (1) Check the homework exercises of the previous unit.

  (2) Revise the expressions of saying sorry to others.

  Step 2. Leading-in

  Talk the following freely with the Ss.

  If you quarrel with sb. How do you express apology?

  Step 3. Listening

  Now listen to the dialogue and find out this information:

  Who thought they would go out to have a dinner? (Jane)

  Who apologize in the end? (Jane)

  Pick out some students to answer the questions loudly to the rest of the class.

  Step 4. Dialogue

  Now get the students to read the dialogue in pairs and underline the difficulties and the key points that they think. Explain some of the language difficulties if any and if necessary.

  Step 5. Practice

  SB P45, Part 2. Tell the students this part is compiled to practice expressing apology. Tell the students to work in pairs to match the two parts to form sentences and then choose the right answers in Column B. After they have finished, get some pairs to read their answers to the rest of the class.

  Step 7.Oral practice

  The T gives the following situation. Talk about with your partner.

  Situation 1.If you speak rudely to your friend. Make a dialogue and Please she or he excuse you.

  Situation 2.If you make your roommate a tape-recorder the can’t work.. Make a dialogue and say sorry about that. 

  Step 8. Practice

  Workbook Lesson 29, Exx.1~3. Get the students to do the exercises individually and then check the answers with the students.

  Step 9. Homework

  1.Finish off the exercises of Lesson 29 in the workbook.

  2. Preview the next lesson if the students have time.
