  Step 1 Leading-in

  Talk freely with the Ss:

  1.What particular things are you good at ?

  2.What pieces of equipment do you use in gymnastics?

  Step 2 Listening

  Listen to the dialogue and find out the answers to the following.

  1.What’s the matter with Sharon?

  2.What does the doctor tell her to do?

  Step 3 Reading

  Read this dialogue again and answer the following.

  1. Who is Sharon?

  2. What is wrong with her?

  3. How did she hurt her shoulder?

  4. Why did the doctor say she had been very fortunate?

  5. What kind of treatment does the doctor advise her to use?

  6. What is Sharon expected to do?

  7. How often does she have to take this treatment?

  8. Why does the doctor suggest using the hot-cloth-and-frozen-peas treatment?

  9. Do you think that this interesting treatment is effective (有效的)?

  Answer

  1. She is a gymnast.

  2. She hurt her shoulder while she was doing gym.

  3. She was doing some exercises on the high-and-low bars. When She landed, she fell forward and hurt herself. Someone was standing too close and she knocked into him and fell over onto her shoulder.

  4. Because it was nothing serious.

  5. The hot-cloth-and-frozen-peas treatment.

  6. She is expected to put a very hot, wet cloth on her shoulder for one minute and then put a packet of frozen peas on the shoulder for one minute. And so on and so on.

  7. Twice a day.

  8. Because the change between hot and cold temperatures makes the blood move around the shoulder and the damaged parts begin to repair themselves.

  9. Yes, I think so.

  Step 4 Dialogue practice

  Let the Ss practise the dialogue in pairs.

  Step 5 Practice

  Go through the expression for the doctor and patient, Drill the three questions asked by the doctor .Then get Ss to practise in pairs. For example:

  Doctor: Asks a question.

  Patient: Says what the problem is.

  Doctor: Makes one or more comments and them gives some advice.

  Step 6 Homework

  1.Finish off the exercises of your Workbook.

  2.Preview Lesson 34.
